While the exact age may vary in respect to every owner’s preference and the yacht itself, age restriction for yacht chartering isn’t out of place for safety reasons.
Some yacht charter companies (and insurance companies…), for example, require that all their guests be at least 18 years old, if they are to charter a yacht. Others can allow children to be part of the guests, so long as there are accompanying adults. Secondly, there are also some activities with certain age restrictions that would apply, such as some water sports.
It is always wise to confirm whether there are any age restrictions applicable to your particular yacht charter with your yacht charter broker.
Age, weather conditions, and itinerary
With their spaciousness and stability on the water, catamarans and stabilized yachts are ideal for senior charter parties and families with young children. These yachts were designed with your comfort and maximum safety in mind, allowing you to enjoy your vacation without concern for any discomfort or danger.
They also offer smooth sailing and comfort because their advanced design reduces pitching and rolling on the water.
Baby on board...
Yacht crews know Mommy and Daddy might like a little private time on their charter. However, they won’t be babysitters although they are happy to design activities that kids enjoy such as fishing, water sports, or playing games on the beach. Further, yacht crews may be able to suggest some local activities that could appeal to both parents and children, recommend a ‘kid-friendly’ restaurant, or set up a ‘kid-friendly’ outing.
But even the most sensitive yacht crews realize that some children are special cases. Children who are especially boisterous, or very young, need a chaperone. Here, the charter broker – and the yacht crew recommend the services of a nanny.
Accessibility and mobility
The majority of yachts are targeted at the mobile traveler. This means that older adults traveling may have their mobility compromised. Hence, for them it may be difficult to negotiate around the yacht or use stairs and reach other parts.
In fact, the onboard elevator is a modern convenience on many of today’s luxury superyachts (> 50m+). Unique features give the offer of luxury and yet provide the venue for better accessibility or convenience to your guests. An onboard lift allows you to move easily from lower decks right out to the sun deck without having to climb several flights of stairs.
This is a particularly welcome feature to anyone who may have mobility problems, or to families with young children who may find themselves up and down from the yacht on numerous occasions.
Some yachts are wheelchair accessible: ask your charter broker for suggestions.
Sport yachts, equipped with just two decks, can also be a smart option for guests with restricted mobility.
